Literacy Center

The ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ Literacy Center is operated by the Literacy Education graduate program.

  • Our tutoring program is designed for students in grades 2–12 who are reading below grade level or experiencing reading difficulties.
  • Participating children and adolescents receive a comprehensive assessment of reading skills and one-on-one, individualized instruction tailored to their specific needs and goals.
  • Instruction is provided by graduate students (all licensed teachers) pursuing advanced degrees in Literacy Education under close supervision of an experienced Literacy Education faculty member.

Fall 2026 Program Details:

  • Dates: September 12th through November 21st
  • When: Saturday mornings
  • Format: In-person
  • Where: The ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ Literacy Center (Room 2003, Lech Walesa Hall, 5500 N. St. Louis Avenue, Chicago)
  • Session Times (student placements are determined by the Literacy Center Director)
  1. Younger students: 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
  2. Older students: 10:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
  • Cost: $150 for the term 

Important Notes:

  • Consistent attendance is essential. Our graduate students (tutors) rely on full participation to meet their practicum requirements. Please apply only if your child can attend all scheduled sessions.
  • While we welcome students who receive some specialized services, our program is not well-suited for children with severe learning disabilities, as our tutors are not all trained in the field of Special Education. If you're unsure whether this program is the right fit for your child, please contact Dr. Madda, Literacy Center Director.
  • This is not an enrichment program for gifted students or those reading above grade level. We also do not provide homework help or preparation for college entrance exams.
